Who we are
Megan E Carter is the founder of Mechanical Raven Productions (est. 2025), which takes on a limited number of performance projects that are early in development and seeks work that is formally innovative, intellectually rigorous, and views the audience as a collaborator.
With over 20 years of experience as a creative producer and dramaturg in interdisciplinary performing arts, Megan brings a distinctive curatorial vision to emerging work. She has developed and produced devised ensemble work with Ripe Time, Lear deBessonet, SITI Company, Palissimo, and the Rude Mechs; and new plays by Liz Duffy Adams, Sheila Callaghan, Virginia Grise, Dominique Morisseau, Saviana Stanescu, and Catherine Trieschmann, among others.
As Producing Director of CalArts Center for New Performance, she produced innovative work with international artists including Polish director Natalia Korczakowska, acclaimed Chinese director Stan Lai, Nataki Garrett, and Roger Guenveur Smith at venues ranging from REDCAT and the Huntington Gardens to the World Internet Convention Center in Wuzhen and Małopolska Garden of Arts in Krakow.
Her dramaturgical practice includes work on the American Premiere of Jackie by Elfriede Jelinek, directed by Tea Alagic, and editing English translations of Jelinek's plays including Rechnitz and The Charges (The Supplicants). At WP Theater, she produced and dramaturged ten world premieres, six New York premieres, and numerous developmental productions that pushed formal boundaries.
Education: MFA in Dramaturgy, Brooklyn College/CUNY; BA in Theatre, Centenary College of Louisiana.
